It has been a month since the start of New Zealand’s self isolation policy for all non essential activities aimed at getting the spread of corona virus under control. Many are staying home to break the virus transmission links. Robin and I often live a somewhat isolated life spending lots of time on our own at our Banks Peninsula home and on our cruising boat.
This time of pandemic upheaval and isolation has made me reflect on our good fortune and the place we call home. It is a great place to enjoy a small piece of the world and reflect on life.
The post title Veranda Views seemed appropriate as our home has a veranda surrounding three sides giving a 180 degree landscape view; perfect for watching the days go by and enjoying its changing atmospheric moods.
One of Robin’s regular comments is that “it’s too bad no one has a camera ready” to capture a special moment. Often true but I occasionally get my butt off the couch and take a picture. During this time of home detention the cameras are out and ready to go. The photos in the gallery below have been taken during this period. Please see the Banks Peninsula Gallery in the Portfolio section for more.
We live half way up a hillside of a circular volcanic crater. It’s about 8 million years old and not about to blow but is still a recognizable crater with hills surrounding us. A great landscape for sun rises and sets, moody fog flowing up and down the valley and ever changing skies and light on the hills.
As many of us spend more time close to home, I hope this post motivates you to explore and enjoy the beauty immediately around you.
I am blown away with the BEAUTY of what I see here…..and all this from your veranda….that is brilliant.
